The Song is part of the dance drama „From Ape to Human“ and deals with communication between human and machine. The scenery is a small fabrication hall, where robots are working, which are connected to an artificial intelligence. The song describes the creation of an android, which should be more pleasant for emotional communication. But the plan fails, when the android is wildly dancing and hitting the wall.
Who did that say?
It’s me, the machine
So this is a fake compliment
Everything you can realize is a fake
Maybe it’s more pleasant, if we give the machine a human like representative
So let’s take plastic, it’s so elastic
But please take wood under the hood
Let’s make him rusty, that is so trusty
We should be sure, to make him pure
Let’s give him eyesight, that he can see right
He needs a nose to smell a rose
He should be moving and gently grooving
So give him legs, before he begs
Let’s make him shiny, and not so grimy
Please don’t use gold, that looks so old
He is so silent, seems to be absent
Then call him John and switch him on
He’s babbling nonsense and dancing intense
That is no good, could be the wood
He looks so silly, let’s call him Billy
He hits the wall, I call him Paul
Paul is an idiot!
But that was your choice
From Ape to Human
Three young couples who have known each other since their school days – i.e. known as a peer group – meet regularly in the loft of computer scientist Paul. They have fun together and are all enthusiastic dancers.
Due to the Corona pandemic, the meeting described in the dance drama takes a slightly different turn. Torn between youthful light-heartedness and caution, they decide to do without dancing. Instead, the very talented programmer Paul wants to show his latest electronic achievement “Alexis”.
A converted coffee machine with a connection to the internet and a good portion of artificial intelligence. He proposes to make a thought game about human evolution: “From Ape to Human”. “Alexis” should be able to produce a suitable music video for each part of the developing story at the first go. But “Alexis” proves to be even more intelligent than Paul ever thought possible.
The Stage Scene Before the Song
Finally in orbit! The boys are happy. Now it’s Paul’s turn with his special interest in robots. He points out the necessity of robots for longer journeys to other galaxies.
Therefore the next episode should definitely deal with the creation of intelligent robots. Claire points out the increasing arbitrariness of Alexis. She is very curious about how Alexis interprets this requirement. It could amount to a machine inventing a machine, rather than people developing the robot according to their own ideas.
Faris notes that, based on the experiences so far, Alexis will certainly incorporate Claire’s concerns into his video. It is only a question of what the solution looks like.
This is Irina’s chance to add the biting remark that she is very curious about Alexis’ robot. Jenny asks to give Alexis a fair chance, because Paul would have put a lot of heart and soul into the programming of the philosophical part of Alexis.
The red light of Alexis is already blinking. It almost seems that the machine is looking forward to this task like a child.
Alexis produces music and videos on the fly in the stage play “From Ape to Human”.
